Heather Hooper, executive director of Dementia Alliance of North Carolina discussed symptoms of cognitive decline described as dementia.
Dementia is not a normal part of aging.
In NC, over 180,000 people are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s dementia. It’s ok to forget where you put your car keys but if you forget you have a car, then there’s trouble.
Normal signs of aging include:
ability to multitask decreases
changes in hearing and vision
learning new skills takes more time
conversation requires more concentration
trouble recalling names
misplace things more often
